A hotel full of character in the heart of Veules-les-Roses, just 350 metres from the sea. Travellers have been stopping here for centuries, and they feel at home the moment they arrive.

Long before the motor car, stagecoaches pulled up right here. Hôtel Douce France is a former coaching inn steeped in several centuries of history: horses were changed, hot meals were shared, and travellers slept here before setting off again along the coast road. Half-timbering, brick, turrets and a vaulted porch: the walls still tell the story of all those centuries of travellers.
Today it is the only hotel in Veules-les-Roses. Behind its façades lie a cobbled courtyard, a walled garden and 26 rooms and apartments, no two alike. You come for the sea, a few minutes' stroll away along the Veules. You stay for the long, lazy mornings in the garden, the evening light on the courtyard and that rare feeling of living in the village rather than simply visiting it.

“Here, time slows down. You put down your suitcase, take a deep breath, and simply feel good.”

A flower-filled courtyard sheltered from the street, the song of water beneath the windows, nights of rare stillness. Here, you sleep like nowhere else.

Facing the sea
There are the rooms in the hotel itself, and then there is the Annexe. 100 m², two bedrooms for up to 4 guests maximum, so that everyone feels truly at ease, and above all a terrace of over 200 m² opening onto the sea, with nothing between you and the horizon. Breakfast in the sunshine, lingering until the very last light, and forgetting rather quickly what time you were meant to leave.
It is our rarest gem, and the first to be snapped up for sunny weekends.
From €320 per night

A buffet served from 7.45 to 11 am beneath the palm-tree wallpaper, made with Normandy producers we have chosen one by one: bread from Saint-Valery-en-Caux, raw-milk cheeses, local saucisson and sweet treats to share. It's the moment our guests mention most in their reviews, and the one we never rush. €18 per person.

The Veules rises in the heart of the village and reaches the sea just 1,149 metres later: it is the smallest river in France. Its watermills, thatched cottages and roses won over Victor Hugo, who stayed here several times with his friend Paul Meurice. Our terraces line its banks: read, have lunch, listen to the water. At the end of the path, the cliffs and the pebble beach.
